HKR Architects celebrates International Women’s Day

We are supporting International Women’s Day, a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and calls for action to accelerate women’s equality.

Here at HKR Architects, we are proud to have an equal split of women and men across our practice, which from figures released by Architects Registration Board shows this is still a rare situation.

The research conducted in April 2023 highlighted that only 31% of architects are female. However there was some positive news showing that in 2021, almost half the new architects joining the register were female.

Ayna Azhigali, Associate Director for HKR Architects comments, “I have seen a positive change in the perception of women working in architecture since I started my career over 15 years ago.

“Working on projects both in the UK and internationally, women’s presence in the architecture sector continues to grow. As an industry we need to make sure that women are provided with equal opportunities and enabled to progress as far as they deserve in their career. It is important to develop a diverse talent of architects who can inspire inclusion and empower the next generation. As a result, this will positively impact the built environment for a wider and more sustainable community.”
